Good Will Hunting

I chose this movie because it is definitely my all time favorite film. Will Hunting is a troubled foster kid who has racked up several charges from theft and robbery to assault. The last straw comes when he assaults a police officer in the middle of fight on a basketball court. While he waits for his court date, he ends up solving a nearly impossible math problem at MIT, where he works as a janitor. When the professor finds out that he is the one who solved it, he works a deal with the judge who allows Will to be released under the supervision of this professor and under the condition that he goes to counseling. His counselor (Robin Williams) shows him everything he can be, and how to follow his dreams. He falls in love, and eventually leaves the countless job offers to go be with this woman.

This film is so interesting because it shows some more of the emotional and psychological issues behind crime. Because Will Hunting was given a chance to explore the reasons behind his criminal behavior, his life was changed. Criminals aren't always just "bad people." Many times they are just troubled people who need a helping hand. Also, I chose this film because it does show some of the issues involved in the foster care system in our country. Overall, this is a fantastic movie!

  1. I've never seen this movie, but it sounds so good. I love hearing about the happy endings. Even though this was a fictional movie, I'm glad that it shows that people care and really are willing to put time in effort into a relationship to help the person. It also shows the retributive side of justice which works really well in some cases, and I'm glad that the main character had a chance to seek counseling to get him through his issues.

  2. This is a fantastic movie. I was going to do my post about it before realizing you did yours on it already. I do think it is good that Will gets to sit down and figure out his problems thus leading to him correcting his life. I think that is something that is lacking in our criminal justice system today. We spend far too much money locking people up and not enough money trying to rehabilitate them.

  3. This was a great movie. I love how it shows how even though you have certain abilities like in this case intelligence. People still may not like it. Just because your good at sports does'nt necessary mena you like playing sports. Here the professor trying to help Will is forcing something that perhaps Mr. Hunting doesn't like to do just a little hobby. Forcing something on anyone just pushes them away and forces them to dislike more somtimes. Which is why Robin Williams in the savior in this case and helps Will make the choice he wants not what everyone else's wants. This is a great film and I totally forgot about it. I think i'll go watchi ti soon!!!!!
